de Graauw, Els, and Shannon Gleeson. 2018. "Philanthropic Investments in Immigrant Rights During Turbulent Times." Politics of Color.
In this blog post, we argue that the uncertainty around DACA and other immigration policies in the United States under the Trump administration is not only harming immigrant families and escalating tensions between federal and lower levels of government, but it is also undermining philanthropic investments in immigrant rights. This places enormous additional stress on community organizations that have long borne the brunt of helping immigrants and other vulnerable populations to access educational and employment opportunities, while keeping their families together.

de Graauw, Els, and Shannon Gleeson. 2016. "An Institutional Examination of the Local Implementation of the DACA Program." Baruch College, CUNY. Center for Nonprofit Strategy and Management Working Paper Series.
This working paper provides a first analysis of our ongoing NSF-funded research on the implementation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in the San Francisco Bay Area in CA, the Greater Houston Area in TX, and the New York City Metro Area in NY. We discuss the involvement in DACA implementation of a range of local public and private institutions, including government agencies, legal service providers, other nonprofit organizations and student/DREAMer groups, and the Mexican Consulate. We also discuss the challenges in funding DACA implementation work and the need for collaboration and coordination across a range of local stakeholders.
